Research Project:  ITSO Smart Ticketing

Alison Rumbles has worked in the Passenger Transport Industry for more than thirty years, twenty one of which were involved in owning and managing a Bus and Coach Business, Truronian Ltd, in Cornwall in the UK.  She has appreciated the opportunity to return to the world of academia as a mature student.

In 2012, she secured a UK Department for Transport and SWSAL sponsored PhD studentship, based at Plymouth University, with the remit to conduct “A critical evaluation of ITSO Smart Ticketing, policy, practice and outcomes”.

In pursuit of this research, information has been gathered through a series of in-depth interviews with key senior personnel involved in Smart Ticketing schemes both in the UK and Australia.   The final thesis is due to be published in the Autumn of 2015, but an interim sharing of experience and knowledge of smart ticketing was felt to be a relevant and valuable contribution, following transcription of all interviews conducted in England.
